Julian Kinderlerer (UK)

Julian Kinderlerer is emeritus Professor of Intellectual Property Law at the University of Cape Town, South Africa; former Professor of Biotechnology and Society at Delft and former Director and Professor of Biotechnology Law in the Sheffield Institute of Biotechnological Law and Ethics, University of Sheffield.

He is President of the European Group on Ethics in science and new technologies (EGE) that advises the European Commission, Council and Parliament on ethical issues referred to the Group – The Group is specifically identified in the European Directive on the legal protection of biotechnological inventions as responsible for ethical issues.

He was Director in charge of biosafety at the United Nations Environment Programme in 2000 with responsibility for assisting developing and emerging countries implement the Cartagena Protocol on biosafety
